Gaineville's Best Businesses

The people on the Williston Rd location are great and very friendly and the food is good. I recommend them to anyone and I think their specials are great. My favorite lunch is the chicken pot pie…mmmmm

- Active Diner

Well, I wish any of their 3 locations would answer the phone so I could place an order to go. I’ve tried calling all the restaurants (it’s Wednesday at 6:15 pm) and nobody answers!

- Active Diner

Don’t expect McDonalds-style or Dennys-style food, service or anything else. This truly is a Gainesville treasure- our town’s version of local flavor. Each of the locations is a little different, but the menu is the same and the atmospheres are similar. A little funky, but the food is wonderful. Try the ruben, the belly-buster breakfast or any of the fresh vegetables. The owners are nice people and community-engaged. My favorite Gvl restaurant.

I dine frequently with my dad at the 13th street location and have found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. They are also at times extremely busy. I always see that they are working hard and doing their best. As a nurse I can appreciate juggling several things at once. My dad loves the place and I would recommend them to anyone. Mgmt has come to my table in the past. They are college kid servers mostly, pat them on the back and encourage them and leave a good tip. Remember when you were their age. I love the organic food selection and options for more healthy eating. Helga Preece

We dined at the 13th street location this morning. It took 10 minutes for anyone to get our drink order, we placed our food order at the same time. Only to find out that they didn’t have what we wanted. So once we finally decided again what we would like, when they brought the food out the order was wrong. The service was horrible, the staff was unkempt and the food wasn’t all that great either. I will only dine at the 43rd street location from here on out.

If you’ve had a bad experience at the 43rd st Deli,
it’s probably because you weren’t at the Williston
Rd location. The food is excellent and the service
is outstanding. The employees are a great group of
fun and friendly people. Become a regular patron of
the Deli, and you’ll be adopted into this one-of-a-
kind family.

This is where I take out of town guests for a hearty Southern breakfast. Lots of choices as well as simple food done well. Much better biscuits than that biscuit restaurant across the street. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, but you risk having screaming kids next to your table because it is very family friendly.

We have a new fave lunch and breakfast place in town. Been here for both. We originally drove to the 13th St. place but a sign on the door directed us here. Not sure what’s going on there.

Breakfast - My Extreme Hash Browns with three cheeses were above standard but the LDC’s veggie omelet was very delicious. We also split a pancake just to compare it to Perkins. It didn’t compare. Service was attentive and friendly.

Lunch - It was right at 2pm, breakfast cutoff time. Our waiter volunteered that he would hold the kitchen so we could still order breakfast if we hurried. So my LDC ordered a tofu kinda scrable thing. with hash browns. She didn’t think it was all that good but didn’t have the heart to send it back considering they extended the cutoff time for her. I on the other hand got a hot pastrami sammie and although the meat was a little thicker than I preferred, I enjoyed it. It was served on very soft rye bread and smeared with spicy brown mustard. Very good.

This place isn’t a real deli like you would find on the real 42nd St. but it’s a welcome substitute to me. I’d like to try their liver and onions sometime. Go figure. . .

- Ed L. Yelp

Good food for breakfast and lunch. Lots of choices for breakfast. The lunch menu is typical deli fare, plus daily specials.

- Belle C. Yelp

Good food. Usually decent service. Good prices. Only open for breakfast & lunch. Nomal deli sandwiches & such but they also have great lunch specials every day … pork chops, pot roast, etc.

- J U. Yelp

I have to say that despite my lackluster review of the other 43rd St deli, I like this restaurant, because it has good family American dishes. I ordered liver and onions and it was right on the mark. Their breakfast is actually better than the other original 43rd st deli.

101downtown

101 Downtown is an International Fusion Restaurant and Lounge, located in the heart of historic Downtown Gainesville, Florida. International Fusion is a new age style cuisine prepared by combining widely differing ethnic ingredients, styles, flavors, and techniques from diverse cultures and countries and bringing them to each of our signature dishes. We also have a full service bar offering the finest martinis Gainesville has to offer. On behalf of all the staff at 101 Downtown, we invite you to come EAT, DRINK, and LOUNGE.

Pretty lame. This place really, really wants to be trendy and chic. But for some reason it reminds me of a little kid prancing around in her mom’s high heels. The food is salty and very average.

- Belle C., Yelp

More like 3.5 (where are those half-stars, Yelp?). I agree that the decor seems to be the brainchild of an Art Institute Interior Design major–that is, “trying” to look modern and sexy. (There’s a full wicker cabana just … sitting … in the dining room. W.T.H.) But the food is actually pretty good.

I really wanted to try the ceviche, but after realizing that none of my dinner guests would eat it with me, we ended up ordering Lobster Mac & Cheese as a starter. It’s completely overpriced at $12 for a small rectangle, but the Kobe Blues burger is a steal at $14. The Kobe and filet mixture literally melts away in your mouth before you even get the chance to chew. Our guests had Plum Glazed Pork Chops and Stuffed Lobster, both of which I thought were well seasoned and nicely cooked, and everyone at the table enjoyed bites of my Orange Duck. The pesto mashed potatoes are insanely good.

I don’t think I’d eat here often, but it seems like a good place to take an adventurous diner with deep pockets. Like Dragonfly, the look is young and upscale, so dress accordingly.

I am very picky about my food. This place has never let me down. I have not been for dinner but lunch is fabulous. I get the house salad, it has everything on it and is a meal alone. The fish tacos are the best I have had. The sweet potato fries are fresh and you can taste that. I could go on and on, but you have to try the place out for your self. I am sure the night life is even better. The prices are normal for downtown and are worth paying for the quality of food and service you get. LOVED IT

creative and delicious flavor combinations, beautiful dish presentation, stylish atmostphere, and attentive service. this fairly new local restuarant is sure to became a gainesville staple. also turns into a club at night, a great place to swing by for a late snack. i’m not talking about your guiltly, dirty, i’m-gonna-pay-for-this-tomorrow kind of late night snack. they serve quality stuff till 2am… just at long as you like your late night music loud, that is. speaking of which, they cycle through a collection of djs, and most that i’ve heard are among the best in town. in north florida, i dare say!

This place has good food, reasonable prices(food, not drinks), and an upbeat, upscale atmosphere. If you do go, to eat or drink, dress to impress, because its FANCY

- Matt, Google

This place is one of the best scenes in Gainesville, whether you just want to go out for a drink or have a really nice dinner. You will thank me after you try some of there food!!!

- Jon, Google

The brunch selections were outstanding. The portions were a little small. I usually think portions are bigger than they need to be, but I was still hungry. Perhaps some muffins or toast would be a good idea. The service was good but you always seem to have to wait too long for the drinks to arrive. You are often finished with your meal by the time the second glass of wine shows up. But the food and ambience were great at Mother’s day brunch.

We had a large group for a Bday lunch and some had to bring their kids. The kids did well and everyone was accommodated as needed. Food Yummy as always, prices reasonable.

The ambiance is what makes 101 Downtown a truly unique place to visit. Lavishly decorated with modern furnishings, the place is a gem. The music is tasteful, geared more to a young, working professional crowd, and accents the decor and the extensive drink menu rather nicely. With a decent list of wines and a rather exhaustive list of specialty martinis, 101 is absolutely wonderful if you are looking for a relaxing drink after a long week’s work; that being said, the food is mediocre at best, and the waitstaff was less than exemplary. We had paid ~$70, sans tip, for two dishes (mimosa chicken & Chilean sea bass), an appetizer, and a cheap martini; for that kind of money, we had expected a bit more service and an unforgettable meal.

Great food and great service. Brunch was fantastic! The variety of mimosas and food was outstanding!

I went to 101 Downtown for my Graduation Dinner. The service was very good and the ambiance was incredible. All of the dishes we got were delicious. I definitely recommend 101 Downtown to anyone looking for a great dining experience. It can get a little expensive so I would reserve this restaurant for special occasions.

- Open Table

Found via Open Table. Everything we tried was delicious; great selection! Decor is beautiful, though TV over bar was distracting and out of place in a nice restaurant. Free valet parking is a nice touch.

It is great to have a lot of specialty drinks, but bartender should know how to make classic cocktails correctly. A martini is not just a glass of gin…and “straight up” does not mean “just gin” which is what she thought.
